Boutique Hotel Warwick House - Nelson

"Location. Boutique Hotel Warwick House is in Nelson, an energetic community at the southwest corner of New Zealand's South Island. It is 700 meters from Queens Gardens and the Suter Gallery and four kilometers from Tahunanui Beach.
Hotel Features. Built in 1854, Boutique Hotel Warwick House is a historic Victorian turreted castle. The structure was extended in the late 1870s to include three towers, a spiral staircase and a ballroom. It first commercially operated as a boarding house for men in the 1890s. Hotel grounds include gardens with hidden pathways and peacocks. Also, the hotel houses a very friendly Labrador Retriever that enjoys taking guests for walks. Complimentary Continental breakfasts are served in the ballroom or in guestrooms. The front desk can arrange massage treatments.

Guestrooms. The two story hotel has five suites. All are individually decorated in Victorian style and include period furnishings. The Peacock Garden Suite has high ceilings, Victorian style wallpaper, a clawfoot bathtub and separate shower, and a balcony with garden views. Modern amenities in all suites include high speed Internet access and CD and DVD players. Suites also include coffee and tea makers and refrigerators. Furnishings include a sofa, chairs and desks. All suites are nonsmoking.

Expert Tip. The city of Nelson has become a creative center, and travelers with a little time on their hands may want to look into some of the numerous workshops local artisans offer. Classes include pottery, glass blowing, carving, sculpture and Maori flax weaving. The area also is noted for its premium vineyards, boutique breweries and locally produced gourmet foods.
